Fiesta Medals

Augmented reality is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory and olfactory.

Big Idea- Fiesta San Antonio is one of the biggest cultural events of the year for the city of San Antonio. One of the most iconic parts of this event is the Fiesta medals made by local businesses, major corporations, and iconic San Antonio brands. With Fiesta being canceled and postponed, I wanted a way where people could still show off their SA pride from home in a fun and interactive way over Instagram AR filters.

The first thing we did in our workflow was to go through the accounts we had and find which ones had Fiesta medals already designed. After this, we split up into different teams; one to 3D model the existing medals, the other to start programming the filter in Spark AR Studio. After multiple renditions and prototyping, we made a template to use for the different Fiesta medals. This template would keep the various medals unique to one another but also keep some of the same features.

QR codes are all scannable with your phone’s camera so you can try the filters out for yourself.
